Artist's Description
A typical scene of a Nicaraguan country road where coffee is harvested. The little girl is wearing the typical frilly pink party dress that is used to celebrate a young woman's fifteenth birthday, and then used until worn out. She is holding a plastic bag of orange drink, bags are often used for take out instead of cups or bottles. Alex Burrows took a photo of this familiar scene, and I painted it, delighting in the contrasts, lights and darks, reflections in the mud puddle, the emotion of the shy, yet curious little girl. I wrote the following poem:........................................THE SMALL GOOD
The time has come
when the winds are blowing
full in your sails.
In the midst of great evil
do the small good
that you know how to do.
