Artist's Description
The 1st Apparition of the Virgin Mary in Cuapa, Nicaragua on May 8, 1980 is described by Bernard Martinez. He details the landscape, the cedar trees, hog plum trees, and coyol palms as well as the thorny flowers at the base of the pile of rocks over which she hovers on a cloud. Lightening strikes twice before she appears, and a crown of 12 stars shines around her head. From her hands flows streams of powerful light. And she has a message to avert WWIII. Today, 40 years later, students are protesting, riot police shoot protesters with live and rubber ammunition, and the statue of Mary of Cuapa is destroyed, another put in its place, and that, too has been destroyed. Her message is not complicated - it is of BEING PEACEMAKERS.
