Artist's Description
This painting was from a scene photographed by Alex Burrows of the abandoned school at Santa Lastenias, Nicaragua. The two girls live near there, and Rebecca, the smallest, is wearing her pink dress from when she was attendant at someone's fifteenth birthday party. The 'brigada' (work-team, mission team) at the Vida Joven Farm/Camp are coming up over the hill. They help in the coffee production, hold clinics, and Bible schools for the community. I wrote the following poem:......................................................................LOVE’S EYES
Love’s eyes:
see clearly,
see things as they really are,
but see the hurt
behind the ugliness,
and the beauty asleep
awaiting love’s awakening.
Love’s eyes:
weep for the wounds
caused from blind accusations –
blaming, rejecting, cutting off
communications,
where love could be growing
green gardens,
fruitful, fragrant, filled
with loving-kindness.
