BIOGRAPHY of Sarah Joan Anderson Hornsby

Born October 29, 1937 in Maryville, TN
Parents: Clarence Ellis Anderson (C.E. or Andy), U.S. Forest Ranger
Lutitia E. Toole Anderson, (Lutie or Tish), Supervisor for Adult Education in the State of South Carolina.
1951-1955 Attended Greenwood High School, in Greenwood, South Carolina.
Chosen to represent that school at Girls State.
1959-BS degree from University of Tennessee Knoxville, in Home Economics- Child Development, minor in literature.
1960-Married James S. Hornsby
1961-1963 Taught 3rd grade at Elkmont School (while Jim was at Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia)
1964-1978 Accompanied Jim in Young Life urban ministry, Jacksonville FL. Began writing children’s books.

Children:
1963 - James S. Hornsby Jr., music teacher married to Maria Tichy and have 4 children living in Seewalchen, Austria, Daniel, David, Johanna, Jakob
1966 - Robert A. Hornsby, Army Doctor in Hinesville, GA, married to Marne Burke and have two girls, Lutitia Maria Faith and Rose Burke
1976-Matthew C. Hornsby, in computer networking, married to Nohelia Talavera of Matagalpa, Nicaragua. They are artists and in drama, living in Matagalpa.

1978-1984: Member of Southern Highland Craft Guild in quilting and appliqué while living in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
1984 to 2010: Missionary wife with Young Life in Nicaragua. Developed a crafts program to help provide funding for the Vida Joven ministry; now managed by Doña Lelia Lopez.

Sarah has authored twelve published books, mostly devotionals through Chosen Books (and now out of print). At the Name of Jesus, 365 devotionals on the names and attributes of Jesus, was her first published book, in 1984, and a best seller.
Her earliest impressions of Nicaragua are recorded in Nicaraguense, published by Marshall Pickering, England, 1985.
