Artist's Description
This is a view from our terrace in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, our Sanctuary. The Bougainvillea bloom most of the year and flourish as do other tropical flora and fauna. We hear the church bells call to mass, and every evening the white herons in graceful groups fly to their nesting trees beside the river. Tiny houses have crowded together on the hillsides since we moved here in 1988, many friends live there, and the painting reminds me to be thankful for the beauty and pray for the needs. I wrote this poem:.................................................................SANCTUARY
Jesus speaks to my heart:
Into your Sanctuary you have come
with refreshed hope, and then some
renewed determination.
You have brought your confession,
and know it has been taken.
Something new is stirring in the winds
the trees rustle with the news
birds call to one another as they fly,
there is new promise to try
something better is breaking in...

Bougainvillea from our Terrace in Matagalpa. The white birds fly daily to roost in a large tree by the river - the San Jose Church by the park nestled between.
