Description
Painted from a photograph taken by my husband, Jim, of our grandson, David, when small in the forest behind his home in Austria. The light sifts through the tall trees, dappling the rich earth, but shining like a beacon on the tender, vulnerable figure of the child. I wrote the following poem.................................................ONE BY ONE THE SHEPHERD
One by one the Shepherd
brings in his straying sheep.
He searched till, all bedraggled,
He found the real me,
hiding and lost,
even from myself.
Only He knew how to find me.
Only He cared enough to try.
He lifts me up so tenderly
scraping off the crud,
and combs out the stickery briars
all tangled with mud.
With strong hands He so gently
touches every wound,
pouring on oil of healing
and makes for me a room.
Safe in His arms
I peek out, and see
the world no longer threatening.
for the Shepherd holds me.
His heart beats so close,
transferring his courage.
calming my fears,
chasing away my worries.
What was it today, little lamb,
that frightened you away?
His eyes so clear
search for you here;
He yearns for you
to be found in Him, too.
Bleat out your pain;
be found in Him again,
for He is the Good Shepherd
of the broken heart.
