Description
Young girls begin learning the typical Nicaraguan folk dances at an early age. In this painting, the dancer is my young friend, Tiffany, who is often chosen to dance in events, like at a school celebration. The costume is a dress so full that the skirt can easily reach above her head. Flowers grace her hair like the National Flower, the Sacuanjoche or Plumeria. The long braids woven with bright ribbons are traditional as the Indian heritage is celebrated in these dances. When the Spanish came they brought fans and jewelry which the Indian girls added to their favorite adornments. In the background can be seen school girls dressed in their navy blue and white uniforms, a contrast to the very colorful folkdance costume. I wrote the following poem..............................FREE
Jesus Speaks to my Heart:
All you have done,
I have enabled.
I make a way where there is no way.
I open a window, when all doors tightly close.
I set your spirit, mind, body FREE
of those bondages which
impede and imprison you.
Free to set others free.
Free to listen and truly hear My voice.
Free to reach out and withdraw,
to be in the stream, and on the shore,
as I show you,
as I lead and direct you.

I am the door; if anyone enters through Me,
he shall be saved, and shall go in and out,
and find pasture. John 10:9
